A Poem

“Elephant in the Room” (author unknown)

There's an elephant in the room.
It is large and squatting, so it is hard to get around it.
Yet we squeeze by with, "How are you?" and "I'm fine," and a thousand other
forms of trivial chatter. We talk about the weather. We talk about work.
We talk about everything else, except the elephant in the room.

There's an elephant in the room.
We all know it's there. We are thinking about the elephant as we talk together.
It is constantly on our minds. For, you see, it is a very large elephant.
It has hurt us all.

But we don't talk about the elephant.
Oh, please, let's talk about the elephant in the room.
For if I cannot, then you are leaving me....
alone....
in a room....
with an elephant.

What I Think It Means:
The elephant might probably cause them a big problem that's why they are trying to avoid it. As big as the elephant is they still ignore it and try to forget that the elephant is there as the elephant trys to interfere they still ignored the elephant.

How this relates to speak:
This poem it relates to the book speak because in th peom melinda would be the elephant because as much as she tries to make friends and as good she is everyone ignores her and act like she don't exist. They ignore her because she caused a big probloem in the summer, so now no one wants to talk to her because of the problem she caused. Another way it relates to the speak is by Andy being the elephant and as much s he bothers her and messes with her hair she ignores him and keeps talking to her friend Heather. Andy caused a big problem for Melinda and cause of that nobody not even her friends want to talk to her.
