First day of school:
I the first day of school I was a little nervous but not that much because I already knew the school because my sister goes to this school too. I was just nervous because I was going to have to make new friends. None of my middle school friends came to this school. But it was not hard for me to make new friends because I just started talking to Isabel. Even people thought that we knew each other since middle school but we didn’t we met each other here. Since I started talking to Isabel I was not nervous no more. Then I also met my other friends here to and all it took was to play an all girls basketball game. Since there on school has been good. “It was my first morning of high school. I have seven new notebooks, a skirt I hate, and a stomachache.” I kind of felt the same way Melinda felt on the first day of school.
High school “clans”:
Every school has their own clans. Clans are different groups of people and they are mostly common in high schools. At times students divide them selves into grade level such as freshman, sophomores, juniors, and the seniors. There is times where they also divide them selves on the way they look and are known as. Ex: pretty boys and girls, gangsters, nerds, rockers, and much more. I don’t think that there is a need to divide the students by the way they look or in the grade level they are. Clans just make it harder for students to get to know each other better. In the book speak Melinda talks about the different clans and she says, “We fall into clans: jocks, country clubbers, idiot savants, cheerleaders, human waste, euro trash, future fascists of America, big hair chix, the Martha’s, suffering artists, thespians, Goth, shredders. I am clan less."
Lies they tell you:
Some lies people told me are that they would expect us to do good in school, be mature, teachers are here to teach you, school is easy, and many other more. Out of all of those none of them are true. Teachers do expect us to do well but not all of them do. They also say that people in high school are more mature but some of them still act like little kids. All teachers are here to teach us but they teach us sometimes things that we don’t really understand. So then we have to ask questions but some people that are shy don’t really ask for help and then they feel lost in that class. Others say that school I easy but it is not easy for everyone.
